“I can’t stand by idly and watch our county flounder under the avoidable burden of lawsuits, the habitual failure to appoint the best people and the refusal to slow down and stop making unforced errors. I will provide Ottawa County with conservative leadership that is in touch with my constituents. I will appoint and hire the best people with public sector management skills and professional qualifications beyond shared ideology.”

As a Conservative I Believe,

  • Conservative is NOT a dirty 12 letter word.  We hold on to these old fashioned, self-evident truths…because they worked for years.!!
  • Old fashioned values like honesty and integrity
  • Listening to people, even those who don’t agree with me. And that there’s times that it is ok to respectfully disagree and walk away.
  • Listening to views that are different than mine
  • That Ottawa County government only exists to protect the health, welfare, safety, and prosperity of its citizens.
  • That every citizen of Ottawa County has inalienable rights guaranteed by the constitution and by the laws of the county.
  • That the sanctity of every life, born and unborn, regardless of gender, age and ethnicity is precious and needs to be protected and nurtured.
  • Spending money carefully with people and vendors who are best experienced and qualified to perform a job or task within the county regardless of their political views or alliances.
  • In keeping the DEI closed for business in Ottawa County
  • In Opposing Medical Mandates
  • Protecting Ottawa County’s Triple A Bond Rating
  • Protecting Parental Rights
  • Opposing Lockdowns
  • Doing and enforcing policies, procedures and processes in a specific time-tested way, because they’ve worked satisfactorily for years.
  • Working together with people from all walks and all aspects of life to find solutions to problems that affect us all in Ottawa County, now and in the future.
  • It’s honorable to serve our community, making our community, our county and our country great place to live and prosper.

The Incredibly High Cost of Incompetence

Would you like an $4 million dollar severance package to leave your job?  Other than a high profile coach at a major university, what public official or even CEO’s of most small or medium size businesses would expect severance pay at that level?

The problem isn’t that a multi-million severance package was developed then not offered.  The real problem is that someone on the county board of commissioners had the bright idea of doing it in the first place. Even worse is that no one put the brakes on this idiotic scheme before it got out of control and ended with needless litigation.

Sigh. Dave Ramsey is rolling his eyes and slapping his forehead.

Ottawa County needs people on the Board of Commissioners who have the courage to stand up for what’s right, and say, “Hey, wait a minute, this pig ain’t gonna fly!”

Ottawa Impact: A Case Study in Flawed Hiring Practices?

Recent events surrounding John Gibbs, a key figure in the county’s administration, has raised serious concerns about Ottawa Impact’s “Vetting” process.

Gibbs’ hiring raised eyebrows due to the perceived lack of transparency and due diligence in the process. This incident serves as only one unfortunate example of Ottawa Impact’s poor “vetting” process. This process has undermined the public’s trust in their local government, but also detracts from the quality of services the county can provide to its citizens.

On the surface, the only criteria or vetting process for potential job candidates appears to be saying the right things and ‘membership’ in the Ottawa Impact ‘club’.

Moreover, a toxic work culture has been created at Ottawa County. The board has butted heads with and needlessly agitated numerous county employees.  Because of this toxic work culture, it will be extremely difficult to hire and retain the best people.

A Toxic Work Environment Is Not A Conservative Value

It’s disheartening to think that anyone would have to endure such a hostile environment. This is not the kind of organization that you would choose to work for.

‘Conservative’ should not be a synonym for unprofessional behavior. It should stand for respect for all individuals, regardless of their personal beliefs. It means upholding the values of honesty, integrity, and fairness, even when no one is watching. The current situation in Ottawa County is a far cry from these principles.

It’s time for a change before the county faces any additional lawsuits regarding employment practices or more severance packages for people who should never have been hired in the first place.

Does this upset you as much as it does me?

It’s time to demand better from our public servants and hold them accountable for their flawed decisions. Let’s ensure that our county embodies the true conservative ethics of respect, fairness, honesty, and integrity.

Sometimes you just need to stand up and say, “Enough”.
